Callan Housing
Sector: Residential
Client: Kilkenny County Council
Kilkenny County Council sought to utilize a semi-derelict site at the edge of a 1950s local athourity estate.
The site was S shaped , with narrow pinch points and service routes and rights of way traversing it.
GMAs design solution provided 28 houses in a tight form, acting as a bookend to the existing houses and addressing the new small open space.
The scheme is designed to maximize solar gain from its south facing orientation, and utilizes high levels of thermal insulation and solar collector roof panels.
Parking is provided in communal bays, with all units provided with private rear gardens and modest front gardens.
Particular effort was made to provide an architecturally attractive treatment to this modest scheme.
The units are being marketed as part of Kilkenny County Councils affordable housing scheme.
